I tend to think reconditioned items are great due to the fact that they are made to brand new again and you get a great deal on pricing. I was thrilled. It looks more like a spray paint industrial look. I was so excited to get this. It certainly doesn't take away from it's performance. I had been searching for just the right blender and one with a glass jar and not plastic. This item was perfect out of the box and I've never had any trouble with it. The body color isn't stainless steel.
I'm not a big plastic fan in the kitchen. I had a gift certificate for $50 and after using that on this item and after tax and shipping I only paid $3 and change. But no biggie, it's put away when I'm done with it. I would recommend this to anyone.
I love this style blender. You do have to clean it thoroughly and put it together tightly. I love the color, I love Kitchenaid, and I love the clean lines and style. It has been great. I thought it was broken, but my husband helped me put it back together and we're great again. I like the pulse option on the blender.
We had this blender. We were talking to a friend who is a serious foodie, and found out that she had the same blender, and the same problem. Pretty happy with it for about a year. Then the hard rubber (or is it plastic) coupler broke on ours, too - just like about 10% of the Amazon reviews report. Ouch. Wouldn't buy another KitchenAid blender without first verifying that it has a metal coupler.
If the jar is less than half full, the contents spatter everywhere. I use this blender to make smoothies and chop ice and can live with the idiosyncrasies. What I find infuriating is when I go to make mayonnaise or another emulsion which requires slowly pouring the oil in through the hole in the lid while the blender is running. I cannot remove the plastic plug from the lid while it is running or the contents of my blender will be all over my kitchen. There is a VERY GOOD reason most blenders are funnel shaped.
When I first got it I didn't do that and did have some little black rubber pieces on the base, but holding it down seems to keep the wear and tear away.I bought a refurbished model at $39.95 and after a year it still looks like new and work great. I put my water in, then the meal replace shake powder and pulse it a few times and then take off the top and put my frozen fruit and chopped ice in and then press liquefy.
I have had no problems with it. I did read the book before I first used it.
I purchased this blender about a year ago and have been using it almost every morning to make my meal replacement shake and have really loved it. Once I put some berries in the top and they did whirl around and not blend.
I was a little worried about some of the negative reviews, but went ahead and bought it since there were more positive reviews than negative. One problem that people had was it not crushing ice or frozen fruit. All the recipes showed putting it in all at once and not dropping it in from the top so I do it that way.
I hold my hand down on the top and that keeps the base from moving any and wearing out the gasket thing and I also can feel when it's finished chopping. Definitely a great buy.
